Navy outfits aircraft carrier with first drone operations center

By Caitlyn Burchett | Stars & Stripes The Navy recently outfitted an aircraft carrier with the first drone operations center, furthering the service’s high-tech pursuit into remotely piloted aircraft. The MQ-25 Stingray warfare center was installed aboard the USS George H.W. Bush, which is based at Naval Station Norfolk, Va., according to an Aug. 15 announcement from Naval Air Systems Command. The MQ-25 Stingray, built by Boeing, is a tanker drone designed to refuel manned fighter jets in midair. Early next year, the Bush will put the warfare center to the test, leading the first at-sea trial of the center’s networks. The crew won’t operate a Stingray but will instead use the software to communicate with a simulated aircraft in a lab in Patuxent River, Md. READ MORE ON STAR...

Fed Chair Powell signals rate cuts as stocks test record highs

By Martin Baccardax | The Street U.S. stocks moved firmly higher in early Friday trading, while Treasury yields and the dollar were largely unchanged, as investors reacted to a key speech from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell that could clarify the central bank's plans for autumn rate cuts.  Bond market are rallying hard on the back of Powell's Jackson Hole address, but bets on an outsized 50 basis point rate cut in September are moving only modestly higher, with the bulk of the odds from the CME Group's FedWatch pointing to a 25 basis point reduction.  Benchmark 10-year Treasury note yields were last marked 5 basis points lower from prior to Powell's remarks at 3.801%, while rate-sensitive 2-year notes fell 6 basis points to 3.935%. Kilpper: From vasectomy vans to hotties for Harris, The DNC was truly a freak show

By Gage Kilpper, Commentary | Daily Caller Throughout the Democratic National Convention, Democrats made a big show out of being “normal,” of standing for “freedom” and traditional, patriotic values. They did their best, but of course it is all a lie; there’s nothing normal about them. Allow me to guide you through the Democrats’ wondrous world of human freaks and oddities. But first, we must get inside! Careful, this is a dangerous path. Stay alert as we wade through the crowds of unwashed protesters — rabid, the lot of them. Feast your eyes on a veritable buffet of causes. Do you want to see the destruction of Israel? Care to donate to Hamas? Perhaps trans rights are more your speed. Or, think bigger: the true idealists here want global intifada or worldwide communist revolut...

Barone: The college graduates’ party’s candidate doesn’t know economic history

By Michael Barone, Commentary | Town Hall Learning isn't necessarily cumulative. Human experience over the centuries provides lessons, some clearer than others. But each generation has to learn lessons anew, and some do not. The lessons about economic growth taught over the long run of history are clear. Growth is not inevitable, and while riches may be accumulated, or appropriated, by the few in high positions, the lives of the very large majority throughout the centuries have been nasty, brutish and short. The exception, the Great Enrichment, began some three centuries ago, around the North Sea, in the Dutch Republic and England, according to economic historian Deirdre McCloskey, in societies when people began respecting and encouraging commerce, rather than resenting and scorni...

US to send $125 million in new military aid to Ukraine, officials say

By Lolita C. Baldor and Matthew Lee | Military.com The Biden administration will send about $125 million in new military aid to Ukraine, U.S. officials said Thursday, even as Washington works to get a better understanding of Kyiv’s incursion into Russia and how it advances the broader battlefield goals more than two years into the war. U.S. officials said the latest package of aid includes air defense missiles, munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), Javelins and an array of other antiarmor missiles, counter-drone and counter-electronic warfare systems and equipment, 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, vehicles and other equipment. RFK Jr.’s possible alliance with Trump threatens to muddy election

By Hanna Trudo and Julia Mueller | The Hill The growing possibility that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could drop out and endorse former President Trump is injecting further chaos into an already unpredictable moment in the election. Kennedy’s allies emphasize that nothing is final yet, and members of his team are in disagreement over how to move forward. But the two campaigns have been negotiating this week, The Hill has learned, with one scenario having Kennedy drop out as early as Friday and back the former president. READ MORE ON THE HILL
Dana Bash characterized Democrats as an estrogen-fueled movement uncomfortable with traditional respect for masculinity.

Dana Bash characterized Democrats as an estrogen-fueled movement uncomfortable with traditional respect for masculinity.

By Tristian Justice | The Federalist Despite the Kamala Harris presidential campaign’s desperate appeal to white male voters with camouflage trucker hats, CNN’s Dana Bash characterized Democrats as an estrogen-fueled political movement uncomfortable with traditional traits of masculinity. Doug Emhoff and Vice-Presidential nominee Tim Walz, Bash said Thursday at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), represent the party’s effort to “put forward male figures” who “can speak to men out there who might not be the testosterone-laden, gun-toting type of guy who wants to listen to Hulk Hogan.” “In addition,” Bash said, the party’s representation of masculinity intends to send the message that “it’s okay in 2024 to be a man comfortable in his own skin who supports a woman.” ...

Vivek Ramaswamy swarmed by anti-Israel protesters — and ‘Crackhead Barney’ — just blocks from DNC

By Josh Christensen | New York Post Anti-Israel protesters swarmed former GOP presidential primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy as he crossed Union Park in Chicago, just blocks from the DNC. “Racist go home! Racist go home!” the demonstrators shouted at Ramaswamy as his security detail formed a bubble of protection around him. “Why are you a genocidal warmonger?” she cried. The internet personality has made headlines for harassing Alec Baldwin in an anti-Israel temper tantrum at a coffee shop in the Big Apple — and later hamming it up on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” about the incident.
