In Tina Peters trial, an advocate for election integrity is found

By Jason Bias | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- In this Western Slope courtroom, Tina Peters, the Mesa County Clerk, has been courageously standing up for election transparency and integrity. Her trial has become a focal point for those advocating for secure and transparent electoral processes. Peters faces charges related to election security breaches she allegedly allowed to demonstrate election fraud during the 2020 elections. These charges include tampering with election equipment and official misconduct. Peters has maintained that her actions were necessary to ensure the integrity of the voting process. Peters' supporters here argue the state's evidence fails to demonstrate any malicious intent or actual tampering with votes. Peters’ defense team ...

Tina Peters trial has seen Dominion, former clerk’s staff testify

By Rocky Mountain Voice staff | Commentary Previously-elected Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters is facing seven felony charges and several misdemeanors in a trial happening this week on the Western Slope.  She is accused of orchestrating a breach to prove election theft. Peters has pleaded not guilty, claiming to be a victim of lawfare. The Colorado secretary of state’s office has refuted her claims summarized in three reports Peters has published, called the “Mesa [County] Reports.”  State prosecutors allege that Peters enlisted software engineer Gerald “Jerry” Wood for IT contract work. Wood passed a background check, received his security badge, and allegedly returned it the same day. However, prosecutors claim his badge was used twice in May 2021 to access secure election f...

Fabbricatore: Why I am running for Colorado’s 6th District in Congress

By John Fabbricatore | Commentary I constantly hear how difficult it is for a Republican to win the seat in the 6th Congressional District in Colorado. It's been a tough battle for many years, but this seat was held by Republican leadership since 1983, represented by former Congressmen Daniel Schaefer, Tom Tancredo, and Mike Coffman. The tide turned when Democrats, determined to take this seat, committed significant financial resources to Jason Crow's campaign, spending more than $5 million. At that time, it became one of Colorado's most expensive races, with nearly $23 million being spent by both candidates and outside groups. In 2018, under mounting pressure and increased Democratic funding, the Republican Party withdrew financial support, with the National Republican Congressio...

Rep. Boebert: ‘It’s now truly MAGA vs. Marxism’ in presidential race

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice The result of Kamala Harris selecting Tim Walz as her running mate is a drifting of the Democratic Party further left, Rep. Lauren Boebert said Tuesday in a series of posts on Twitter/X. "It’s now truly MAGA vs Marxism," she tweeted in one post. "I know what side I’m on!" Boebert defeated a dozen opponents in her 4th District Republican Party primary election for U.S. representative, positioning as the most conservative choice in the final field of six, which she defeated across the board by about 30%. She held the endorsement of Donald J. Trump. She never shied from her conservative positions. She doesn't on Twitter/X, either. "It’s pretty obvious that the Democrat[ic] Party has now fully morphed into the Hamas Party," she wrote. "The pic...

Markets claw back some losses on rebound Tuesday; Dow still down 4.17% for the week

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice The worst day in two years on Wall Street and in financial markets worldwide was followed Tuesday by some claw back in value. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which took a beating on Monday, finished up 0.76% on a nearly 295-point rise. The S&P 500 finished up 1.04% and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.03%. Many financial analysts supported the theory Monday's bloodbath for investors was related to an underperforming jobs report, or possibly inaction by the Fed. Former President Donald J. Trump noted it was also possibly related to his opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris, announcing prior to the market opening she had the delegates for the nomination for President. He called it the "Kamala Crash" and boasted a Trump presidency would result i...

Who is Harris’ VP candidate Tim Walz? A far Left radical, Trump campaign says

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Where does the selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as vice president place a possible Kamala Harris-Walz presidential administration on the political spectrum? It cements it as a far Left, radical ticket, the most radical in the country's history, several sources in the Donald J. Trump presidential campaign said Tuesday. "From proposing his own carbon-free agenda, to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars, and embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide," Karoline Leavitt, the Trump-Vance campaign press secretary, wrote in a statement. Walz is soft on crime and "loves" China, opposition research by the Republican Party indic...

Conn’s HomePlus closing all stores nationwide, including six in Colorado

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Some Coloradans might be able to find a great deal on furniture, appliances, electronics, bedding and more as Conn's HomePlus prepares to close all of its stores nationwide. In July, the retailer announced plans to close a little less than half of its locations as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Instead, it will shutter all 174 stores, eliminating about 4,000 jobs in 15 states. The top of the company's website on Tuesday displayed a "Going out of business sale" banner, boasting 30-50% off everything in store and on the website. Conn's HomePlus operates six locations in Colorado, a search of the website details. These include:7360 W. 52nd. Ave., Arvada.60 S. Abilene St., Aurora.340 N. Academy Blvd., Colorado Springs.550 E. 102nd Ave...

Sold out: Trump will visit Aspen for fundraiser and you most likely can’t get a ticket

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Editor's note: This story was edited at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, to reflect new information correcting prior erroneous information concerning the Colorado GOP's relation to the Trump 47 Committee. The hardest ticket to get in Colorado this week -- and the most expensive -- will be a seat to be in attendance when former President Donald Trump returns to Colorado. He will address a crowd Saturday in Aspen, making his first campaign appearance since 2020, when he stumped for former U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner. A seat at the dinner for a couple will cost $25,000, while host levels for a couple cost $100,000 and $500,000. But, the invite on the Trump 47 Committee page indicates the event is sold out. The invite did not list a time or location f...

Ganahl: The Politics of Pets in Colorado, Part 1

By Heidi Ganahl | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Editor's note: This is the first in a commentary series. Please check back for more in the series. Last week, our family added a new furry member: 7-month-old “Bruce”, a bull terrier pup rescued out of a domestic violence situation, through my dear friend Lynn Gerber’s rescue organization, Pawsitive Pathways.  Most folks know I founded and built the pet care franchise Camp Bow Wow, but the thing I’m most proud of in my career was building the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation, it’s sister charity.  Working with our franchisees across the country, we were able to rehome over 10,000 dogs over a decade.  Pet rescue is near and dear to me, and it’s a huge problem. Approximately 6.3 million dogs, cats, and other household pe...
