Colorado’s 3rd District moved to ‘likely Republican’ by Cook Political

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado's 3rd District on the Western Slope is one of eight nationally to have received a ratings change from Cook Political. The seat is presently held by U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, but is an open seat in the general election as Boebert vies for election in the 4th District. Democrat Adam Frisch and Republican Jeff Hurd are their parties' nominations for the 3rd District seat. Cook Political moved the seat from lean Republican to likely Republican, improving the chance Republicans will hold the seat in November. “Nothing is going right for Adam Frisch," said National Republican Congressional Committee spokeswoman Delanie Bomar. "While Frisch is floundering, momentum is on our side as Republicans are all hands on deck to send Jeff Hurd to ...

Can one guy run 15,500 businesses from out of state? Attorney general sues on fraudulent filings

By Tamara Chuang | Colorado Sun The number of new companies created in Colorado in the past two years may not have set all-time records after all, after officials discovered more than 15,500 fraudulent business filings last year by a man who used a stranger’s home address. The Colorado Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday filed a consent judgment in Denver District Court to settle allegations against defendant Marcio Garcia Andrade for violating the Colorado Consumer Protection Act. Andrade, who doesn’t live in Colorado, was accused of filing the new business formations between February 2022 and August 2023 that were linked to a Northglenn townhome address “without the knowledge or consent of the homeowner and resident,” according to the AG’s lawsuit. Gov. Polis signs property tax deal into law as measures removed from ballot

By Gabrielle Franklin | Fox 31 News The governor on Wednesday officially signed into law the property tax agreement designed to keep two initiatives off this year’s Colorado ballot. Now that the deal is done, FOX31 is taking a closer look at the impact it could have on your wallet. Property owners should still expect high property taxes this year, but state leaders say the increase will be lower than if the compromise had not been passed and if ballot initiatives 50 and 108 failed. If 50 and 108 passed without lawmakers reconvening for a special session, there could have been devastating impacts on funding for local services. Lawmakers celebrated the end of what they called property tax wars with groups that often bring property tax measures, but some concerns around the effects s...

Caldara: Learning to live without a functional Colorado GOP

By Jon Caldara | Complete Colorado I’m trying to come up with the right analogy. I’m sure you can do much better. I’m thinking of a bunch of little kids playing king of the hill. In their minds, they think the pile of dirt is Mount Everest, when, in fact, it’s the size of a pitching mound. Or maybe one of those Japanese soldiers who was left on a small, isolated island for decades not knowing World War II had ended and his side lost. He’s still fighting. Or, perhaps, corporate shareholders fighting for control of a company they think is the size of IBM when in fact it’s a broken hot dog cart. A Broken System: The fight to protect our children from our own family courts

By Heidi Ganahl | Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado Parents and Grandparents, I have an important “to do" for you today (Thursday, Sept 5).  Can you come to the Ralph Carr Justice Center at 11am? It’s a critical opportunity to show up in a BIG way for mothers and children, rallying around one of the most important issues of our time, the protection of our children from abuse. One of my dear friends, Maralee McLean, is speaking about her daughter’s journey, her journey, and you won’t want to miss it. I met Maralee after I founded a non-profit called Moms Fight Back in 2013, to deal with the toughest issues we face as Moms, protecting our children from abuse, after my own daughter was sexually assaulted and treated horribly by our justice system.   Maralee sat with me...

Colorado school district had trans-identifying female supervise young boys showering, lawsuit alleges

By  Mary Margaret Olohan | Daily Wire A Colorado school district has knowingly and repeatedly assigned children to bunk with members of the opposite sex on overnight trips, according to a lawsuit first obtained by The Daily Wire. Jefferson County School District’s “Transgender Students” policy requires that all students on overnight visits are to be roomed by their gender identity, rather than their actual sex. The district shared this policy with transgender-identifying students and chaperones, but not with students or their parents. The three families suing the district on behalf of their children — Joseph and Serena Wailes, Bret and Susanne Roller, and Robert and Jade Perlman — did not learn about the policies until their children found themselves rooming with students and chap...

Legal filing aimed at compelling Colorado to ensure valid election

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice United Sovereign Americans has completed a legal filing to compel the State of Colorado to ensure a legally valid 2024 election, a press release from Colorado 2024 Election Project Founder Kim Monson reads. “The big, broad middle of Coloradans -- moderate Democrats, Republicans, unaffiliateds, minor parties, Libertarians, and conservatives -- agree that we must have elections that are free, fair, honest and transparent," Monson said. "The Colorado 2024 Election Project is thrilled to implement this bold, preemptive project to ensure a legally valid 2024 Colorado Election.” She termed the legal filing as Step 1 of the project. Monson announced $100,000 has been raised to fully fund the first step of the project -- the legal filing -- and a por...

Fabbricatore to be joined Thursday at Aurora rally for border security by U.S. Reps Boebert, Roy

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice When Colorado Gov. Jared Polis termed the alleged gang infiltration of an apartment complex in Aurora "imagination" and his allies alleged it to be right-wing conspiracy, John Fabbricatore acted. He confirmed activity of the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua in Aurora and his X/Twitter account became a tip line. “I am greatly concerned about the uptick in crime, gang presence and flood of fentanyl acrossour borders," Fabbricatore said. "The Biden-Harris administration has allowed floods of unvetted illegal migrants to cross our borders." The former regional director of ICE and the Republican nominee in Colorado's 6th District for the U.S. House will be joined Thursday by U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colorado, and U.S. Rep. Chip ...

In first 4th District meeting, Lauren Boebert, Trisha Calvarese clash over economic issues

By Thelma Grimes | Colorado Politics U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert and Trisha Calverese on Tuesday clashed over housing, inflation and government spending in their only debate so far in the race for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. But they also agreed on a few things. Both said they would oppose foreign interests buying up America’s farmlands. The two candidates also want to extend existing tax cuts for Americans. Boebert said she wants to add more, while Calvarese said the middle class needs a tax break. READ THE FULL STORY AT COLORADO POLITICS

‘We only work for the people’: Dems at capitol cry foul on ballot-measure leverage act

By Jesse Paul and Brian Eason | The Colorado Sun Want to get state lawmakers’ attention? All you need is a few million dollars and an idea big enough to shake up Colorado’s policy landscape.  The special legislative session on property taxes that ended Thursday was the product of two wealthy groups that shelled out large sums to collect enough voter signatures to get a pair of measures on the statewide ballot. Initiative 108 would have cut property taxes by an estimated $2.4 billion starting in the 2025 tax year, while Initiative 50 would have amended the state constitution to impose a 4% cap on future property tax revenue.
