What’s on the ballot? In Denver, tax increases, new debt, nearly $1 billion school bond

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice A variety of topics will confront Denver voters on the November ballot, decisions which could shape the future of Colorado's capitol city. Voters will be asked about whether to allow illegal immigrants to serve in the fire and police departments, to weigh-in on a pair of bans related to animal fur and livestock slaughter, collective bargaining, tax increases and a nearly $1 billion bond package for Denver schools. That's all before Denver voters consider statewide measures on the ballot. Following is a brief look at each ballot item with links to the full ballot measure text provided, when available. The descriptor may not end up being the ballot title: Affordable housing funding: The measure would, if passed, increase the local sales tax...

‘You got our kids murdered’: Gold Star families lambast Harris for politicizing Trump’s appearance at Arlington Ceremony

By Jordan Boyd | The Federalist Vice President Kamala Harris tried to use the plight of the 13 Gold Star families who lost their loved ones during the Biden administration’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal to score political points in her 2024 campaign against former President Donald Trump. Her plot backfired tremendously, however, when several of the family members mourning those murdered during the terrorist attack at Abbey Gate issued statements condemning Harris for politicizing the remnants of a disaster she created. Trump, at the request of the Gold Star families, attended a service at Arlington National Cemetery last week honoring the fallen on the third anniversary of their deaths. According to the families who organized the event, Trump and his team were “respectful” and “lis...

Elon Musk says Brazilian judge should go to prison in latest attack after X ban upheld in country

By Brie Stimson  | Fox Business Elon Musk didn’t mince words on Monday, writing on his X platform that Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes should be arrested.  "De Moraes deserves prison for his crimes," the tech billionaire wrote on X on Sept. 2 after the country’s high court upheld a ban on the social media platform.  The temporary ban was imposed over the weekend after Musk didn’t name a legal representative before a deadline in a case going back months in which the country demanded some accounts be suspended that had been implicated in probes of so-called digital militias accused of spreading misinformation and hate. Republican Lauren Boebert, Democrat Trisha Calvarese to meet today in lunchtime business-focused debate

By Ernest Luning | Denver Gazette Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert and her Democratic challenger Trisha Calvarese are set to face off in a debate on business and economic issues on Sept. 3 in Roxborough Park. The lunchtime debate is so far the only meet-up scheduled between the two major party candidates running in Colorado's 4th Congressional District, which covers Douglas County, parts of Larimer and Weld Counties, and the Eastern Plains. Boebert and Calvarese both emerged from crowded primaries for the seat formerly represented by Republican U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, who resigned in March. Republican Greg Lopez defeated Calvarese in a June special election to serve out the remainder of Buck's term. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DENVER GAZETTE

Obama-left and far-left fight to control Harris

By Washington Examiner Because Democrats closed ranks around Kamala Harris and now project an image of a party united by joy, it’s easily forgotten that their new nominee was not the first choice of those who played key roles in ousting President Joe Biden, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and most especially former President Barack Obama. Their preferred solution after Biden’s incapacity became undeniable was that Harris should be one among several candidates, and probably not the one who emerged victorious. It’s important to remember that until the day Biden actually surrendered, Harris was joked about as his insurance policy against regicide. But Biden overturned the apple cart by endorsing Harris as his successor within minutes of anno...

What’s on the ballot? In 41 states voters will be asked to decide issues of significance

By DAVID A. LIEB | The Associated Press, via Colorado Politics Life, death, crime and taxes will be on ballots for voters to decide this fall. More than 140 measures are going before voters in 41 states during the general election alongside choices for president and other top offices. The ballot questions will give voters a chance to directly decide some consequential issues, instead of deferring to their elected representatives. Some ballot measures also could draw more people to the polls, potentially impacting results for the presidency in swing states, control of Congress and the outcomes for closely contested state offices. In Jefferson Co., campaign seeks to protect TABOR caps, as voters in other areas asked to remove them

By Karen Morfitt | CBS Colorado Cities and counties across the metro area are going to voters asking to remove revenue limits set by the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights. In Jefferson County there is now a push to save TABOR that is gaining momentum as well. "I think these are like the third use of them,"  county resident Jessica Fenske said. The yard signs she's helping to paint this year are sending the same message they did in 2019 and again in 2022 -- to protect tax caps put in place by TABOR. "It's the same fight every time; it's not a left or right fight going on," Fenske said. "It's just the people trying to keep some of their money." READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS COLORADO

Ben Shapiro, leading conservative podcaster, takes on new role as Republican fundraiser

By Alex Isenstadt | Politico Ben Shapiro, one of the most listened-to and controversial podcasters in America, is trying a new role: Republican fundraiser. During the final months of the election cycle, Shapiro plans to hold fundraisers for Republican Senate candidates in a handful of races that could determine which party controls the chamber. That’s after Shapiro, once a sharp critic of Donald Trump, co-hosted an event for the former president in late March. Those close to Shapiro say it’s possible he’ll hold another fundraiser for the ex-president ahead of the election. READ THE FULL STORY AT POLITICO

Johnson: The Top 7 Tim Walz’s Lies

By Ben Johnson  | Daily Signal CNN thinks it understands what sets Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz apart from the average politician: honesty. “[W]hat Walz has—and it’s rare in politics these days—is that he’s totally comfortable in his own skin. He knows who he is. He’s authentic. And he doesn’t try to be someone else,” said CNN’s Chris Cillizza. Yet Walz stands accused of purveying a string of lies, errors, and prevarications stretching back to his earliest days in politics, fibbing about everything from his military service to whether he won an obscure award from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce as a 29-year-old man. Here is a far-from-exhaustive list of the mistruths Walz has communicated. READ MORE AT THE DAILY SIGNAL...

RNC scores election law victories in these swing states. Here’s what that could mean in November

By Fred Lucas | The Daily Signal The Republican National Committee this week filed election-related lawsuits in Michigan and North Carolina, coming off a Supreme Court victory last week over election procedures in Arizona.  An RNC initiative called Protect the Vote has filed more than 100 lawsuits across 25 states and recruited more than 150,000 lawyers and volunteer poll watchers across the country.  “We are defending the law and fighting for commonsense security measures that benefit all Americans—like stopping illegal immigrants from voting, mail ballot safeguards, voter ID measures, stopping leftist dark money, and cleaning the voter rolls,” Gineen Bresso, director of election integrity for the Republican National Committee, told The Daily S...
